When Heather McNair phoned about wanting some photos of her kids, I (Graham) kicked off into my usual spiel about preferring to shoot children the ages of hers, at their home (or a park, or a farm, etc) rather than in our studio.
So when Heather said her house would be fine, I took her at her word. What I didn’t expect was a stunning, two story, blue stone house, that would be a dream to shoot in & around.
Add three beautiful children, and how could I go wrong!
After two of the other mum’s in Francie’s mother’s group had shown her their Renaissance family portraits, Francie decided to dive in, with a shoot at home.
Thank you Carl for being so accommodating. Carl took the morning off, and I felt like I’d brought an assistant- my camera and lighting gear magically appeared wherever I needed it.
Near the end, Carl’s sister dropped by, and helped keep Amber animated. Now it was impossible to take a bad photo! It’s days like this that help compensate for the times a three year old tries to bite off the buttons on my camera. (Psst, I need those buttons just where they are.)
It was a wonderful escape to travel down to Canberra and photograph Cristy & Troy’s wedding, so very close to Christmas (the Friday before).
I’d photographed Cristy’s brother’s wedding a year or so earlier down near Wagga, and it’s one I won’t forget in a hurry! (Think five suited boys on motorbikes, all doing synchronised wheel stands across a paddock.)
This time around it was nice to meet the family again (Cristy & Troy’s mum is delightful), and a total pleasure to forget about the crazy Christmas shopping frenzy happening all around, and be drawn into a love story instead.
Despite living in Cowra, Melissa & Mark had a all-in-one ceremony & reception at Langdon’s on Peabody, near Molong. They’d heard stories about Langdon’s legendary service, and seeing Melissa wanted a wedding with no risk of anything going wrong, it was a nice fit. As it turned out, they’d heard good stories about us too.
I’ve had a couple of requests to re-post some of my editorial shoots, that included technical lighting info. Here’s a nice one of Teena Miller, the owner of Orange’s Indulgence Hair Studio, shot for a feature on her award winning styling.
My brief was that the pic needed to be tall & skinny (an advert would be running down the side), with space above Teena’s head for text overlay.
Chloe told me (Graham) the day before her wedding: “I’ve never had a single professional photo taken in my life, it’s just not something my family did. It’s all a bit scary. You see, we just don’t look good in photos.” She finished with “if we end up with just one nice image, I’ll be really happy.”
These guys were yet another of those “ooh, we both just hate having our photo taken” couples. I love people like this!

This is a wedding I’ve been looking forward to for years. Not that it’s been a known event for years, but it had to only be a matter of time, before one of the most eligible young ladies in Orange, finally fell in love with one of the many troubadours lining up to leave flowers at her door.
It was also a wedding that was nearly relocated to Sydney after Maree Caltabiano & Mark Coleman’s reception venue informed them only two weeks out, that they were cancelling the booking for their reception with 200 guests. “Here’s a refund for the deposit you paid us six months ago, good bye.”

After receiving their wedding photos , Kim and Michael Cunial informed me that I’d now become their family photographer. Sounds good to me! It’s very rewarding being a part of people’s lives over time.
Two years on, having now discharged his primary responsibilities as an Italian boy- that of getting married (to a beautiful girl at that), and producing a grandchild, it was time for Michael to send all those previously nagging rels some photos, and put a little family history up on the wall.
What a kind lady Alison is. How many high society gals would risk winter snow storms on their wedding day (it did actually snow), just so their future hubby would be able to remember his most important date of each year? Well, Alison did, and the 8th of the 8th 08 it was!
I got the shock of my life when after asking Alison Bennett & Hamish Karrasch if they could find me an assistant from their guest list, they informed me they’d asked Scott Gilbank!
I nearly wet my pants at the embarrassment of having someone come along to carry my camera bag, who was already shooting international print campaigns by the time I’d figured out how to make sure I’d actually loaded film in a camera!

I’m not called on to shoot very many August weddings, so having two back to back, was a real treat. This one was a shorter coverage, but the kicker for me was the weather. It had snowed a little the day before (Alison & Hamish’s wedding) and again that morning. Worse, the storm clouds were brewing…
